Today we announced the first public beta of KnowledgeTree version 3, which has been occupying me for the past three months or so. Check out the demo site to see just how much prettier it is from KT 2, and then download it. Watch out for a few Windows platform issues if you're a Windows user - they're discussed on the Known Issues page.
I see Brad has been commenting on our progress on KnowledgeTree. To paraphrase Brad: The past week rocked. My moderately technically interesting but pretty much boring KT3 back-end work met Brad's inspired UI layer work, and suddenly all our over-the-pool-table dreaming solidified and we couldn't help but fall in love with it.
Cape Town managed to lose power for a few hours this afternoon in time for our company lunch and general meeting. Part of the general meeting was discussing KnowledgeTree version 3. As Brad put it, discussing document management is hardly something a normal person wants to spend their Friday afternoon doing in the heat (air conditioners require power), but that's why we have non-normal people like us. But Brad's great KT3 UI work is best understood with screenshots, and the projector requires power too.
Last week on the train home from work, I noticed someone with a Tectonic Magazine. And on the weekend I notice there are OpenOffice.org CDs with training material at the one computer shop in Cavendish. The one that isn't the one everyone hates. Whatever it is called.
