After a bit of work, the new KnowledgeTree web site is up. The backend is Plone and some magic from colleague Brad, and I had almost nothing to do with it. Well, it certainly looks prettier than the old one, and is easier to edit and add things than the old one. And will allow for more options than the old one. Perhaps that means the old one sucked? ;)
I'd intended to work on other bits of KnowledgeTree over the weekend, but I got a bit sidetracked on configuration for some reason. The thing about tangeants is usually that they're nowhere near as useful as the stuff they're leading you from, and I suspect that's the case here. But some aspects of using a PHP file for configuration have obviously taken root because I've now designed something ever so much more complex.
I'm not sure if I've posted this before - an article on running KnowledgeTree on Netware, complete with some proof that it can authenticate off eDirectory. I wonder if eDirectory does "security groups" the same way Active Directory does...
I'm in the second week of a contract Jam Warehouse has got to improve KnowledgeTree. The nice thing about it is that the items they want improved mapped very closely to what I thought needed improvement in KnowledgeTree. So, I had a head-start in thinking how to approach the improvements, and now I'm really looking forward to seeing things done right in KnowledgeTree soon. I'll chat a little bit about my progress as I go on. Not too much, I have set myself a tight schedule on this project - the final product is due on my birthday, September 27th.

Martin Hattingh has a weird us-vs-them post. I tend not to write short comments, and since I'm not posting here as often as I used to, I think I'll pirate back my comments.

Up at 7:30am (yes, 3.5 hours sleep...), to get packed up and have a final meeting about the statement (The Limpopo Commitment). To discover that the rest of the group don't have my well-practised resolve. Or something. Then, the bus to Soweto (along with some new pictures).

I've got tons of pictures and more to report from the NEPAD Youth Conference on the Information Society (some background info), but I was away Thursday and Friday in Durban (helping to get rid of the last known bugs in the eThekwini portals), and am recovering from some killer food poisoning (from Durban, not from the excellent Mabula Lodge) and sleep deprivation from the conference and the food poisoning.
